March

Well, March turned out to be a crazy month.  Almost as soon as we got back from Disneyland the world seemed to stop because of the Covid 19 outbreak.  The kids made it to just four days of school and then it was closed.  Dance, soccer, and baseball were all cancelled.  I had to close preschool.  We have gone through all the emotions! Luckily we were able to stock up on toilet paper and we have been doing well.  Brandon has still had to go to work of course and has had to put in some pretty long days.  Luckily they haven't had any cases in his hospital yet.  Here are a few highlights from our social distancing at home.

The kids have been playing lots of Legos and we made quick work of our new puzzle we brought home from Disneyland.

Boo is probably loving the pandemic because she has gotten tons of attention and gone on tons of walks. We are also grateful for the mostly beautiful weather that we have had.

The kids found lots of interesting ways to entertain themselves.

I also have had time to practice some new hairstyles on Mia.

Our neighborhood has done a lot of things to help everyone through this weird time.  On this day we did a chalk walk.  Brandon's contributions were a little interesting.

Alex has been really into Star Wars since we've been back from Disneyland.  Mia joined him on this day.  They had light saber fights and dressed up in costume.

We've also been doing lots of online school.  The kids each have Zoom meetings with their teachers almost every day. Before this I had never heard of Zoom and now we use it all the time.

Mia has even had dance and tumbling classes over the internet as well.

Towards the end of the month Brandon braved Costco for us.  The line was long but moved pretty quickly.  He was able to get most of what he needed.  They still didn't have toilet paper or tissues though.

Luckily the leprechauns were not effected by the virus and they still came to drop off a treat for us on St. Patrick's day. They left a scavenger hunt.

They found a stash of treats in the closet downstairs!

In case this month wasn't crazy enough we also experienced a 5.7 earthquake on March 18th.  I was sleeping but it woke me right up.  This was the first earthquake I remember ever feeling and I am good if it is the last.  It was loud and seemed to last a while.  Brandon had already left for work so I ran into both my kids bedrooms.  Mia was crying and Alex was just laying in his bed confused.  I quickly called Brandon and he had no idea anything had happened.  Since he was driving at the time he didn't notice it at all.  The rest of the day was just as crazy.  We had pretty consistent aftershocks that lasted all day and even in the weeks following.  A few of the aftershocks were pretty big.  The earthquake didn't seem to leave much damage luckily.  Our temple picture fell off the shelf and left a dent in our buffet table and other pictures and things fell over but nothing broke.  The kids were so impressed that this ice cream toy remained stacked downstairs and didn't fall over.  Being in the basement made a big difference in whether you could feel the aftershocks or not. Alex wasn't too phased by the whole ordeal but Mia was an emotional wreck the whole day and for a few days after.  Anytime we had an aftershock she cried and ran for me.

The earthquake day was also our first official day of online school.  I spent most of the day trying to log in to a bunch of different programs and print off worksheets for the kids all while Mia clung to me and we had an aftershock every half hour or so.

On a couple of mornings we woke up to snow.  Mia hadn't gotten a chance to go sledding yet this winter so we headed out to do some.  The snow wasn't the best but good enough to get some good sledding in.

We also hosted a cousin sleepover this month.  The kids were so excited and had so much fun!

Rather suddenly and unexpectedly Jaden was sent home from his mission due to the pandemic.  Even though we couldn't meet him at the airport we were so excited to welcome him home.  We made signs and met him outside his house.  We didn't get too close since he is supposed to quarantine for the next 14 days but we were so excited to see him!
